I spy the with my little eye, something beginning with m.
For some time I've liked the idea of owning a telescope. How cool would it be to be able to see the things in the sky for more than just little dots of light. Mostly though, to be able to actually look at our closest neighbour and satellite, the moon. Well, I received one for Christmas, and I can tell you, there's nothing like it. I've very quickly developed nothing short of an obsession.
I have a Celestron Powerseeker 70az. It's the first time I've been able to actually look at the moon's surface... and it really is something to behold. The photograph below is from the outer edge of an almost full moon. So there's only a small amount of shadow, but enough to see some detail.

I am using my phone to take photographs with at the moment. It's quite tricky to keep it on place over the telescope eyepiece. However, this is something that I will be able to resolve with an adaptor. I'm looking at getting the Celestron NexYZ to do this. I've asked around in some astronomy groups and looked into it myself, it seems like the best option.
I've managed to get some decent shots of it in the last week. Although, moon rise has been too late the last few days for me to attempt to capture a crescent. It's a 17% waning crescent tonight. My plan is to get up early enough to photograph it before dawn. Fingers crossed I have the power to not just snooze!

I can't wait to see a crescent!
I'll be drawing these. You can see more on my facebook page
